We had no planned activity for last year’s Independence Day--but the neighborhood kids had their own plan. As we looked out of the window, we
saw several kids lined up in front of the house with small flags in their
hands. When they saw us, they started
singing the national anthem and waving their flags. Then they proceeded to parade, singing and
waving their flags. This is in Quiapo, one of the poorest and most crowded
places in Manila.
Moments like this make us think--maybe it’s worth it all.
